September News from the Nursery

Now that the holiday season is coming to a close, thoughts can return to the garden. After a very indifferent August weatherwise we had a beautiful bank holiday weekend - most unusual.

September has made an extremely wet start, with local roads around here flooded. However the rain combined with the warm soil conditions make it ideal for planting.

Many of the grasses are looking splendid, none more so than the magnificent Miscanthus sinensis Malepartus.  Other herbaceous plants like Rudbeckia are still in full flower, while many of the Asters are only just begining to show colour.

Now is an excellent time to establish a hedge and we have plenty of suitable plants available, including Griselinia littoralis, Elaeagnus x ebbingei, and x ebbingei Coastal Gold, Fuchsia riccartonii,  or why not try something a bit more unusual like Corokia, which makes a lovely coastal hedge.
