A tall dramatic grass can be up to 2.5 metres. The leaves grow up to 90 cm and then the flower spikes burst upwards. The flower plumes are airy and dark purplish. The leaves go gold in autumn before dying down. The flowers detach themselves in winter. Needs a moist soil and a sunny position.
