April has arrived, and with it comes a real sense that the growing season is underway. The nursery is bursting back into life, with fresh growth appearing across our range and longer, brighter days giving everything a welcome boost.
Spring Growth in Full Swing
After a mild winter, many plants have come through in excellent condition and are already putting on strong new growth. Grasses such as Miscanthus, Calamagrostis and Pennisetum—cut back over the past few weeks—are now shooting away vigorously, and it’s always satisfying to see them return so quickly.
Evergreen shrubs are also looking particularly healthy, making this an ideal time for planting hedging and structural plants that will establish well ahead of summer.
A Perfect Time to Plant
Soil conditions are currently just about perfect—moist but warming—which makes April one of the best months of the year for planting. Whether you’re establishing a new hedge, filling gaps in a border, or adding coastal-tolerant planting, getting plants in the ground now gives them the best chance to root in before drier weather arrives.
Container-grown stock continues to be a reliable option, offering flexibility and strong establishment when planted with care.
Coastal Planting Focus
For those gardening in exposed or coastal areas, now is a great time to think about resilient planting schemes. Many of our shrubs and perennials are well suited to wind, salt, and free-draining soils, and we’re continuing to expand our range with tough, reliable varieties that perform well in challenging conditions.
Nursery Highlights
Fresh batches of hedging plants are now available and looking strong
Herbaceous perennials are starting to bulk up nicely for the season ahead
Grasses and ferns are waking up and will be ready for planting in the coming weeks
