Description
An unusual, evergreen shrub with intricate zigzag branching, small grey-green leaves and excellent year-round architectural interest. In late spring, masses of lightly scented, star-shaped yellow flowers appear along the stems, attracting bees and other pollinating insects. These are followed by bright orange-red berries in autumn, providing valuable food for birds and adding seasonal colour.
Native to New Zealand, Corokia cotoneaster is exceptionally tolerant of coastal conditions, salt-laden winds and dry soils once established, making it an excellent choice for seaside gardens. Its naturally dense, twiggy habit also makes it ideal for informal hedging, screening, topiary or as a striking specimen shrub in contemporary and gravel gardens.
Easy to grow in full sun or partial shade, it thrives in well-drained soil and requires little maintenance beyond occasional trimming to maintain its shape.
