Description
Aloe aristata, commonly known as lace aloe, is a compact, evergreen succulent prized for its attractive rosettes of fleshy, dark green leaves decorated with distinctive white spots and fine, soft teeth along the margins. Each leaf ends in a delicate white filament, giving the plant its characteristic lace-like appearance.
Typically growing 15–20 cm (6–8 inches) tall and spreading gradually through offsets, lace aloe forms dense clumps that make it ideal for rock gardens, succulent displays, containers, and indoor cultivation. In late spring to early summer, mature plants produce upright flower spikes bearing tubular orange to coral-red blooms that attract bees and other pollinators.
Aloe aristata thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, sandy or gritty soil. Like most succulents, it is drought tolerant once established and requires only occasional watering, making it an excellent low-maintenance choice for water-wise gardens. In colder climates, it is best grown in containers and protected from prolonged frost.
