Hakonechloa macra, commonly known as Japanese forest grass, is an elegant deciduous ornamental grass with graceful, arching habit and lush green foliage. The narrow leaves form attractive, gently cascading clumps that move beautifully in the breeze, bringing softness and movement to borders and woodland-style planting.
It is particularly effective planted beneath trees and shrubs, along paths or at the front of shady borders, where its fresh green foliage provides an excellent contrast to darker-leaved plants. In autumn, the foliage often develops attractive golden and bronze tones before dying back for winter.
