Description
Ficus carica ‘Brown Turkey’ is a popular, reliable fig variety producing delicious, sweet fruits with brownish-purple skins and soft, amber-red flesh. The large, deeply lobed leaves provide an attractive exotic appearance and make this an excellent choice for sunny courtyards, patios and sheltered gardens.
The main crop of figs ripens from late summer into early autumn, with established plants often producing a generous harvest in warm conditions. ‘Brown Turkey’ is particularly well suited to the UK climate and is one of the most dependable varieties for outdoor cultivation.
For the best crops, plant in a warm, sunny, sheltered position against a south- or west-facing wall. Restricting the roots by planting in a large container or using a root barrier can encourage fruit production. Water regularly during the growing season and protect young plants from severe winter cold.
