Description
A fast-growing, evergreen succulent prized for its ability to thrive in hot, dry and coastal conditions. It forms a dense, spreading mat of fleshy, bright green leaves that provides excellent year-round ground cover, making it ideal for stabilising banks, covering difficult slopes and suppressing weeds.
From late spring through summer, large, vibrant daisy-like flowers in shades of bright yellow emerge above the foliage, opening in sunshine and attracting bees and other pollinating insects. The flowers are followed by fleshy, fig-like fruits, adding further interest. Exceptionally tolerant of drought, salt-laden winds and poor sandy soils, Carpobrotus edulis is perfectly suited to coastal gardens, gravel gardens and Mediterranean-style planting schemes.
